2. Criteria for a good work environment

Briefly about the topic

There are three central criteria for the work environment which all businesses must fulfill.

They're called "the 3 criteria". All businesses must fulfill the following:

  • Create a Risk Assessment (RA).

  • Organise a yearly work environment evaluation.

  • The employer must ensure that all employees have been onboarded and instructed correctly in how to execute their work tasks safely and securely.

Der er tre centrale krav til arbejdsmiljøet, som alle virksomheder skal opfylde.

APV (Risk Assessment)
All businesses with at least one employee must have a written assessment of their work environment - this is called a Risk Assessment. It is the owner of the business' responsibility, alongside the employees, to create an APV and you get to decide how it's done.

There has to be a plan of action in the areas where the physical and psychological work environment can be improved. This plan of action must be visible to the employees.

A yearly work environment evaluation
Once a year all businesses with at least one employee must arrange a yearly work environment evaluation.

Your dialogue regarding the work environment must happen as a continuous and direct contact in your daily work, but once a year the owner of the business must arrange a work environment evaluation with its employees.

Here you have the opportunity to talk about how you feel about the safety regulations and the well being among your colleagues and which challenges you're having at work.

The owner of the business, alongside the employees, must create a plan of action for the work environment for the following year, decide who's in charge of what, as well as establish the goals for your cooperation the following years and evaluate and discuss whether or not you've reached the goals from last year's assessment.

Onboarding and instruction
The owner of the business has the responsibility to make sure that the employees have been trained and instructed in how to perform their job correctly to avoid mistakes and accidents from happening. It is important to build up a new routine when new employees are hired, or a new situation occurs fx. new technology or new tools. The employees should be able to execute their job without getting an injury or getting sick.

Before new employees begin their work, you have to, depending on the concrete work tasks, train and onboard them in how the tools and machines work, the correct work postures and movements etc.

If there are any particular safety measures at your work place, it is important to inform about those as well.

Why is this topic relevant to our industry?

Within all companies, frameworks have been created for the work environment, including this industry.

In this industry, there is often a particular focus on parts of the work environment such as heavy lifting, slippery floors and so on, but having the frameworks for these particular tasks and discussions can help maintain focus during the busy weekdays.

What does it say about the topic in the legislation?
