Briefly about SVU

What is SVU?

  • The State Educational Support for Adults (SVU) is an educational grant that allows you to continue or further your education during working hours.

  • SVU is a salary reimbursement grant for your employer to cover the hours you spend on your education during working hours where you are unavailable to your employer.

Who can apply?


People who can answer yes to ALL the questions below:

  • You have been employed for more than 26 weeks at the start of your education.

  • You do not have a higher education*.

  • You have a higher education but have not used the education within the last 5 years.

  • You are 25 years old or older.

*You may not have completed a short higher education (KVU) such as an Academy Profession (AP) degree - e.g. AP Graduate in Service, Hospitality and Tourism Management - or a bachelor's degree. A vocational education as a waiter or chef, on the other hand, is not a higher education and you are therefore eligible to apply for SVU as long as you meet the other requirements.

4. Employment

Fill in whether you are an employee and if you have been employed for 26 weeks or more. You are only eligible for SVU if you click "Yes" to having been employed for more than 26 weeks.

5. Information about your educational institution

As we have a cooperation with an educational institution, you need to enter the following information below:

  • In which region is the educational institution you are enrolled at located? Region Hovedstaden

  • Which educational institution are you enrolled in? EA Copenhagen Business (Cphbusiness)

Note: It auto-fills under “E-mail” and you must not change the information in the fields.

6. Information about your employer

You must provide your company’s VAT number (CVR): you can click here if you are in doubt.

You must fill in the fields "Name" and "E-mail" with information about the person who has access to your company's MitID Erhverv.

7. Information about the SVU administrator

You are asked to choose a university college – here you have to choose: Københavns Professionshøjskole. They are the ones we collaborate with.

If you DO have a higher education but have not used the degree within the last 5 years, fill out the fields accordingly:

9. Working hours and absence

  • In the initial field, please write the number of hours you typically work per week, such as 37 or whichever number of hours you work.

  • The second field inquires whether your absence from the workplace varies on a weekly basis.

  • In the third field, you are required to specify the SVU hours you have decided to apply for. The application allows for a minimum of 6 hours and a maximum of 37 hours per week. Many people opt for 21 hours per week, aligning with the time spent attending classes, preparing for class, and working on assignments.

10. Other public financial support

You will be asked whether you receive any other public support. This could include: SU, benefits under the Danish Sickness and Childbirth Act, or support for expenses related to the remuneration of an assistant intended to cover your living expenses during the period for which you are applying for SVU. Here, you must be able to answer "No".

11. Disbursement

If you are disbursing a salary to yourself: You will be asked whether the SVU is to be disbursed to the workplace - it should be if you are disbursing your own salary. Later in the application process, you must attach a payslip as proof.
